This little gem is owned by an Australian restaurateur who hung out in the Middle East for 12 years, learning the language and experiencing the food. He has bought his local knowledge to us lucky Gold Coasters and we just keep going back for more!
Taboon is Arabic for the stone oven – which is the centrepiece in this gorgeous restaurant – delivering delicious aromas and food!
They are open 7 days from 10am (closing times vary – no Monday dinner) and don’t forget to visit Zarraffas next door for a coffee afterwards!
Husband FE (Fussy Eater): FE liked the food but is a wee bit too fussy generally for middle eastern flavours. 7/10
16yr old VFE (Very Fussy Eater): Liked the filled pitas and chicken skewers. Not really his favourite flavours. 6/10
Me FOF (Finder of Food): I loved it and can’t stop going back for lunches with the girls. The Bedouin salad with Spiced lamb mince, pine nuts, crunchy pita & yoghurt is divine – so much food and so much flavour – yet you still feel healthy because its called a salad 🙂 The Spiced Lamb Mince Pizza with zucchini & yoghurt is another fave – great to share. The lunch bowls of Egyptian rice & salad topped with your choice of main ingredient (prawn, chicken, lamb), tabouleh, yoghurt & Taboon’s special dressing are great value and hard to choose a flavour as they are ALL good! 9/10
Value: Very good – all my favourites are under $20 and you can also start a lunch bowl card to get a free one after you buy 7 – have a look at their fb page for more info.
Service: Great service – it is counter service but if they are not busy they will always come to your table and take your order – the waitresses are always happy and friendly.
Verdict: Great for groups – easy to all pay for your own meals at the counter so bills don’t have to be split. We love our long ladies lunches here as they don’t rush you out the door. Good to have some different flavours for a change too!
